Last night was pleasant on the roof with cool breezes after a hot day in clinic and traffic. It was filled with great conversation with the whole group and a little adult beverage as we watched a magnificent electrical storm travel completely around us, leaving a patch of clear sky over our heads all the while. And yes, we are now certain the Delmas 24 roosters have discovered us. We could hear them start around 10pm just up the hill and they successfully stirred up their friends all around us. It must be some sort of rooster GPS system. I will say they have some stiff competition with Jeff’s new yappy canine friend, who apparently resides just below our window.
It is hard to believe we are half way through this experience. Today was a day much like yesterday with clinic at Monfort’s facility from 9-2 (about 170 patients today). The drive this morning took us by the main marketplace at the Port…the only word that comes to mind readily is just…WOW.

How can people live in these conditions? We can only hope that we provide some measure of relief from their day to day maladies during our short stay. If you need perspective in your life, and we all do, this is surely the place to get it.

Jeff had his own excitement today, getting to see the city up close and personal on the back of a motorcycle, weaving through traffic and tent cities. He worked with Edjour, an employee of Angel Missions, putting his contracting skills to work, restoring reliable electrical service to Kez’s home. He was also a guest speaker at Edjour’s English school. There can be no doubt now that “Jeffery” has left his mark on this country for sure.

We have now enjoyed a great Haitian meal of chicken with red beans and rice and are looking forward to more time relaxing on our roof in the cool breeze. Maybe a good game of cards is in our future before we turn in for the night. Please pray that the rooster GPS system fails and the yappy dog gets lost tonight. If not, I am afraid they might all end up on someone’s dinner table soon.

That is all for tonight. We are grateful for the support we have at home and the love of our family and friends. None of this is possible without you in our lives.

Will share more tomorrow night. Love to all.
