With all the alarming news these days, both at home and abroad, including in our beloved Haiti, I thought it was high time to deliver some good news…actually some GLORIOUS NEWS!!!
Due to the generosity of our donors at Project Starfish, the generosity of our friends and their donors from The Western New York Impact Foundation and the Caribbean Children’s Foundation and a grant from our newest friends, The Father’s Table Foundation, we have now secured enough funding to complete all the construction elements for The Peter Y Whitehead Memorial Clinic!!!
What this means is, at long last, the clinic to honor the memory of a fine man and a great pediatrician is becoming a reality!! However, a clinic is not just a structure, though as you can see, a beautiful structure it is. Rather, it is a place where those in need come to find compassion, comfort, care and caring…these are the qualities that Peter lived daily in his personal and professional life and I can think of no better way to honor his memory than to make certain this structure and those within it provide these same qualities with every encounter.
With that said, we will be discontinuing Phase 1 of our fundraising campaign and putting all our efforts behind raising an Endowment fund, adequate to support the ongoing operations for the clinic. This includes hiring medical personnel-doctor, nurses, pharmacist and lab tech; administrative, clerical and cleaning staff, pharmaceutical and other medical supplies as well as security services. This too will be no small task.
So, for the moment, we should all revel in the glorious news that construction will be completed, but we must not rest until we have reached the final goal – providing the same compassion, comfort, care and caring that embodies the man we aim to honor.
